The job market today is extremely competitive, so it’s important to start self-marketing as early as possible. Luckily, there are some easy ways that this can be done. After all, people have been known to meet key career starters through social media and online groups so learning to self-market is crucial. These are some of the most basic ways to get your name out there, but always keep exploring and remain curious!

social media

One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to get yourself out there is through social media. Create a LinkedIn account and share your professional success with your network. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people and search for new opportunities. It’s a well-known fact that many people get discovered by employers through LinkedIn, and you can apply for various job openings as well. Instagram is another great way to share your creative side with followers, along with letting them know what you have been up to personally and professionally.

school clubs

Join school clubs that genuinely interest you. I stress the genuine part because if you don’t love being in something, you won’t put your best effort into it. Through clubs, you’ll be able to create content, events, etc. that will add to your portfolio. Most importantly, you’ll get to meet new people and build connections that will last far longer than your university career.

online groups/internships

The college fashionista program is a fine example of an online internship that really adds to not only your university experience and portfolio, but also your brand. Having work to show and share with friends gives you the chance to learn and improve your writing while allowing people to understand what you stand for. Look for online opportunities where you can gain training and exposure to the field you want to work in.

Get to work and try out some of these tips. Post your best Linkedin photo on Instagram and tag @Cfashionista!
